Prof. Adamu Y. Kabiru; Chairman, SMB
 PROFILE OF PROFESSOR YUSUF ADAMU KABIRU Professor Yusuf Adamu Kabiru is a distinguished Professor of Biochemistry in the School of Life Sciences at the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State, Nigeria. He is an accomplished academic with over 32 years of university teaching experience, demonstrating a strong commitment to teaching, research, postgraduate supervision, and university administration. Professor Kabiru obtained his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Biochemistry from the Federal University of Technology, Minna, in 2010. His academic career reflects a sustained dedication to advancing knowledge in Biochemistry, particularly through research into plant-derived products and their potential applications in the treatment of infectious tropical diseases. His major research interest focuses on exploring medicinal plants and plant products for the treatment of tropical infectious diseases, particularly African trypanosomiasis and malaria. His research contributes to the broader scientific quest for effective, accessible, and potentially affordable therapeutic alternatives for combating diseases that continue to pose significant public health challenges, especially in tropical regions. Through his research activities, he seeks to advance scientific understanding of the medicinal properties of plants and their possible applications in disease management. Professor Kabiru was appointed a full Professor of Biochemistry in 2016 in recognition of his academic and professional contributions. Over the years, he has played important roles in academic leadership and university governance. He served as Head of the Department of Biochemistry from 2012 to 2016, during which he contributed to departmental administration, academic coordination, and the advancement of teaching and research activities. In recognition of his leadership experience and institutional contributions, Professor Kabiru served as a member of the University Governing Council of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, from 2020 to 2024. He currently serves as the University's Focal Officer for the SERVICOM initiative, a role that supports the promotion of effective service delivery, accountability, responsiveness, and improved service standards within the university community. Professor Kabiru has also made significant contributions to human capacity development through postgraduate and undergraduate supervision. He has successfully supervised 12 Ph.D. candidates, 12 Master of Technology (M.Tech.) students, and more than 30 Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) students. He is currently supervising two Ph.D. candidates, demonstrating his continued commitment to mentoring emerging researchers and developing future professionals in the field of Biochemistry. With his extensive teaching experience, research expertise, administrative background, and record of student supervision, Professor Kabiru remains committed to academic excellence, scientific research, institutional development, and the training of future generations of scientists. His professional career reflects a combination of academic leadership, research engagement, and service to the university community.
